



He served on the Township Committee from 1996 through 2014, having served as Mayor twice and Deputy Mayor six times. A member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Association of University Professors, over the years his work was published multiple times. Gene was awarded numerous honors from Chi Epsilon and Sigma Xi, and awards from the Foundation Overseers Public and Institute Service Award at NJIT, Engineer of the Year from the North Jersey Branch of ASCE, Eminent Engineer of the Tau Beta Pi among others. Having earned his BCE in Civil Engineering at The Cooper Union, his Masters of Civil Engineering at Columbia University, and his PhD in Applied Mechanics from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, Gene was a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NJIT in Newark for 48 years where he also served as Department Chairman and Union President. At the age of nine, he moved to Oceanside, LI and eventually settled in Freehold Township in 1970. Golub, 76, of Freehold Township passed away at home on Sunday, February 20, 2017.
